Matthew Ross is a filmmaker and journalist born and raised in New York City. His short film LOLA screened at the 2006 Hamptons International Film Festival, the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival, and will continue its festival run through 2007. His most recent short, RED ANGEL, which was produced by Alex Orlovsky and Jamie Patricof (HALF NELSON), made its world premiere at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. Other work includes the award-winning short CURTIS AND CLOVER, and AM60’s “Just a Dream” video for Sony Music.
His latest script is the psychological thriller FRANK & LOLA, which Anne Chaisson (ROGER DODGER, P.S.), Jack Turner (formerly of United Artists) and Population 2 partners Lars Knudson and Jay van Hoy (OLD JOY, WILD TIGERS I HAVE KNOWN) are producing. Shooting is scheduled for Spring 2007. The script for FRANK & LOLA was selected as one of the 15 best screenplays of the 2006 Slamdance Screenplay Competition.
Matthew’s script PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS was one of six scripts selected to the 2002 Hamptons Film Festival Screenwriters Conference. In December, 2006, it was optioned by Anonymous Content (BABEL, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND). Acclaimed commercial helmer Pat Sherman will direct PLAYS WELL in 2007.
Currently the senior editor of Filmmaker magazine and executive editor of The Daily Reel, Matthew has also held staff editor/writer positions at Variety, indieWIRE, IFCRant and Creative Planet and continues to write regularly about film for a number of other publications. Matthew is also a member of IFP’s Program Advisory Board.
Matthew graduated with honors from Harvard with a degree in Visual and Environmental Studies. He currently lives in Los Angeles.
